Dragnetting Polanski

These Jack Webb vids have been quite hilarious, love this one:

The insanely wrong-headed defense of Polanski by some Hollywood asshats is predictable and more of the same-old-same-old.  The defenders are a bunch of amoral idiots who some how fathom that artists are allowed to commit crimes and get away with them because of their art.

I’m sure that those Hollywood types would respond the same way if a priest drugged, raped and sodomized a child…

Thank you so much for mentioning this one. I’ve been livid over it.

I actually heard Bernard-Henri Levy on NPR trying to defend him to Geraldine Ferraro (set up the first SVU in NYC). She upheld that a crime is a crime and he needs to serve the sentence, regardless of whether the victim has forgiven him by now. Period. He went on and on about how the “manhunt” 30 years later is a “travesty” after the common people had been celebrating him all these years, and Polanski had given them all such joy with his films, and the whole reason for picking him up now, after he’d been traveling to Switzerland 3 times a year for so long, was that the judge was up for re-election, and yada yada yada (with a French accent, of course).

The reason for picking him up now is that he got complacent and far too big for his britches. Had he been going to Switzerland for years? Yes, which is why he dared to go this last time. But until now, he was quiet about it. He didn’t go with some big fanfare. And so the Swiss could get away with ignoring it without there being a big outcry. This time, he was going with full pomp and circumstance to accept an award for “lifetime achievment.” There was no way in hell the US gov’t was going to allow the Swiss gov’t to ignore it this time, regardless of the judge’s re-election bid.

The guy raped a 13-year-old girl. He got a slap on the wrist in the first place. The least he could do would be to serve that miniscule sentence he pled to 30 years ago, when rape was regularly blamed on the victim, no matter the victim’s age or circumstances. Get a grip, Hollywood, and take a look at just how out-of-touch you really are.

(Sorry for the rant. Had to get it out there to someone who would agree with me.)

Oh, Chrysta, it’s not a rant, it’s truth. The defense of Polanski is waaaaaay beyond understandable. Way. It’s out over the edge of reality.

I really think the Hollywood defense of Polanski is akin to the Congress refusing to look into corruption in other politicians – Once you begin to correctly judge the actions of others and correctly ascribe them as the crimes they are you must then also look at yourself and see the crimes you yourself commit.

I find it VASTLY interesting that the very same people who felt that Sarah Palin was the most evil creature on the planet because she dared not to abort her downs syndrome baby are all kinds of okay with a brutal assault against a 13 year old child.

Is it any different than everyone “forgetting” that MJ was a child molester? A perv is a perv no matter how rich or talented you are. What kills me the most is that there is more public outcry if you say something that’s not PC. Just plain sickness….
